Stopping Drills
Drill 1: Long Barrier
Drill 2: Fielding Circle
Deep Catching Drills
Drill 3: Over Shoulder
This drill is done in threes and is a good fielding warm up. The players stand 20m apart in a triangle formation, with one ball. The player with the ball rolls the ball along the ground so his partner can pick up the ball and underarm it back. Once the ball has been returned it is instantly thrown back over the players head so a catch can be taken over the shoulder. The drill can then be repeated for the other players.
Drill 4: Monster Machine Gun
Groups of 4. One of the members has a load of balls at his feet and hits a high catch to a fielder, ideally making the player travel a distance before making the catch attempt. The player catches the ball then they quickly roll it underarm in the general direction of the thrower. The players waiting for their go then collect the balls and underarm back to you when the next catch is in the air. The thrower keeps pumping balls up in the air like a machine gun: Restricting recovery time and fatiguing the player. End the drill at 5 successful catches. Once each member gets their successful chances, roles rotate.
Close Catching Drills
Drill 5: Double Slip Cordon
Groups of 3 Players, 2 fielders and 1 batsman. 2 fielders are placed as slip cordons around 10m from the batsman. The batsman then hits alternately to each group either a pull or cut shot. Fielder returns the ball after catching it to make it easy for the batsman to hit.
Drill 6: Catching Ladder
-Replace coach in drill with a student batsman. Then drill doubles as a batting drill.
-After 2 overs, top becomes new batsman. |
