Skype
Skype is a free program which allows face to face communication online. The program uses internet to connect two or more people from anywhere in the world into a live chat. Skype has the capability of allowing one to one calls, group calls, instant messaging and even allows Skype users to call phones for a small fee.
In a HPE setting a teacher could organise to use Skype to contact a professional sportsperson or coach and have them talk to the students. Teachers can also link up other sports classes so their class can learn to collaborate with the other class. Another use for Skype could be allowing teachers to enter into group chats so that they can discuss their program for the year or anything else they want to discuss. It would effectively be like having a meeting but could be done without leaving the comfort of your home.
The main advantage of Skype is that you can contact anyone anywhere at anytime. This means that teachers could chat and learn off teachers on the other side of the world. Skype is also a free program which makes it affordable for all schools. The main disadvantage to Skype is its need for an internet connection, specifically a strong one. Without good internet connection Skype can be laggy, pixelated and generally frustrating. Therefore schools that do not have access to a strong Wi-Fi may not be able to use Skype effectively.
Within the SEPEP Unit you could have the students contact and discuss with each other to assist them in their roles. Especially those roles that work closely together e.g. a Statistician and a Team Scout.
