Simple drill where class is put into pairs and required to line up in two straight lines 10m apart from each other.
To begin with, students throw to each other continuously (Stage 1)
Drill concentrates on KTPs for catch and underarm throw
Catch KTPs: Track, Reach, Give
Underarm Throw KTPs: Step, Swing, Release
Progression: Four successful throws = two steps back.
Due to this progression drill students are enabled to challenge themselves.
Drill 2: Overarm Throw & Catch
Simple drill where class is once again put into pairs and required to line up in two straight lines 15m apart from each other.
Step 1 of drill (Stage 1): Partners throw back and forth to each other continuously, using Overarm Throw KTPs: Reach, Tip, Step and Point.
Step 2 of drill (Stage 2): Addition of a cone in the middle of the pairs. One student rolls the ball to their partner, this partner picks the ball up (getting body behind the ball) and throws the ball in an attempt to hit the marker in the middle. Repeat 6 times and then swap.
Drill Extension: Bounce the ball instead of roll, Take steps back upon successful throw at marker.
Drill 3: Bowling & Back Up
Class is split up into groups of four. There will be a designated wicket-keeper, back-stop, one fielder and one bowler.
Keeper rolls the ball out to the fielder, the fielder retrieves the ball and returns it to bowler.
Bowler then bowls at the wicket. Wicket-keeper and back-stop cover ball if it misses wickets.
KTPs of bowling: Reach, Tip, Windmill.
Bowler and fielder switch roles after 3 balls, as do the wicket-keeper and back-stop. After 2 overs have been bowled, fielders switch with wicket-keepers.
Progressions: Wicket-keeper can start by underarm rolling but can then progress to underarm throwing and then finally overarm throwing.
Drill Extension: Addition of a hoop in front of the wicket for LENGTH of the bowl and a line of cones for the LINE of the bowl. 2 points awarded for successful completion of line or length.
Drill 4: Batting Stand
Class is split into groups of four. There will be two outfielders, one collector and one batsman.
Step 1 (Stage 1): Batter will have a ball set up on a tee. They must play either a cut-shot, pull-shot, vertical shot or a block shot to the outfielders. Outfielders return to collector who sets up the ball on the tee again. They get three shots each and then rotate.
Step 2 (Stage 2): Addition of 4 cones creating 3 gaps. Outfielders choose to stand in two of the three gaps. Batsman's job is to then pick the gap that the outfielders are not standing in.
To progress to Stage 3: Add scoring by getting batsman to run if a run is on.
Game: Quick Fire Cricket
Class is split into four teams, so two games can be played at once. Two batting teams, two fielding teams.
6 tees with balls will be set up and a wicket will be set up in the middle, and another set up 10m away that batsmen can run to and from.
In the outfield, there will be a designated line (with cones) that fielders cannot cross until the batsmen has hit all of the balls on top of the 6 tees.
To score runs, batsmen run between the wickets. As the game progresses, the line can act as a boundary i.e. batsmen hits it through = 4 runs, batsmen hits it over = 6 runs.
Batsman stops running when fielders have returned all of the balls to the top of the 6 tees.
